Our Focus
Although India is only 1/3 the size of the U.S., it’s population is nearly 1.3 billion. Of those, 40% are illiterate (that’s the population of the U.S., Canada and Mexico combined).
India is in the 10/40 window. Over 600 million live in deep poverty with 300 million living below the poverty line. When we think of the poor, the really poor of this world, the 10/40 Window must be looked into. More than 9 out of 10 of the poorest of the poor live in the window. In this window, about 10,700 children are born and 1,400 people die each hour without ever hearing the gospel. The majority of people in this world are children… 3 out of 4 are hungry. Over 100 Million Children are Victims of Child Labor.
50% of the people have never heard the name of Jesus. There are 1,942 recognized language groups without God’s Written Word. Over 400,000 Villages have no Gospel workers (or) the Church. 37 million tribal people and more than 187,000 villages have never heard the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Every night 250 million Indians go to bed on an empty stomach. 83 % of the population lives in rural areas. Only 21% rural population with adequate access to clean water. Ther
e are no medical clinic and schools at all. 80,000 People die each day eternally separated from Jesus Christ
RELIGIONS IN INDIA
India known as the land of spirituality and philosophy, was the birthplace of some religions, which even exist today in the world. The most dominant religion in India today is Hinduism. About 80% of Indians are Hindus. Hinduism is a colorful religion with a vast gallery of Gods and Goddesses. Hinduism is one of the ancient religions in the world. It is supposed to have developed about 5000 years ago. Later on in ancient period other religions developed in India.
Around 500 BC two other religions developed in India, namely, Buddhism and Jainism. Today only about 0.5% of Indians are Jains and about 0.7% are Buddhist. In ancient times Jainism and specially Buddhism were very popular in India. Indians who accepted Buddhist philosophy spread it not only within the Indian sub-continent but also to kingdoms east and south of India.
These three ancient religions, Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, are seen as the molders of the India philosophy. In ‘modern’ period new religions were also established in India.
Now India is experiencing a great challenge of religious fundamentalists. They claim that India is for the Hindus. Missionaries and Pastors are attacked and burned alive.
In Hinduism 33 million gods are worshiped, and 200 million cows are considered holy. India is the Largest democracy in the world, the 6th largest country in the world and one of the most ancient and living civilizations. We are calling on Churches, Ministers, Ministries and Christians to help us to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to these unreached people groups in India, to glorify the name of Jesus Christ on earth.
